Letter, 1808 September 9.

Letter to Stephen Van Rensselaer requesting Van Rensselaer to inform him of the reason he was not appointed an officer in the state militia. Lawrence indicates that "my name was not on the list of officers 'approved of' for that service, I requested General Giles to procure an explanation upon the subject lest my reputation as an officer might be affected by it. As that has not been done I take the liberty of applying to you direct." Written at New York, N.Y.
